Surfen – nicht wirklich die erste Assoziation, die der Name dieses kleinen Binnenlandes in der Mitte von Europa hervorruft. Und doch, es tut sich was in der Schweiz. Ob auf stehenden Flusswellen, hinter hochgezüchteten Motorbooten oder mit gepacktem Rucksack am Flughafen – die Schweizer Surferinnen und Surfer machen das fehlende Meer durch viel Innovation und noch mehr Motivation wett. Die Szene scheint sich zum Ziel gesetzt zu haben, jede surfbare Welle in der Schweiz aufzuspüren – in den Wellen dieser Welt sind ihre Mitglieder sowieso schon fast Stammgäste.
Shaper, die mitten im Zürcher Industriequartier Surfboards herstellen, Auswanderer, die der Schweiz den Rücken kehren und Rückkehrer, die es wieder zurück zieht – die Surferinnen und Surfer der Schweiz sind ein Volk von Lebenskünstlern. Wie bringen sie es fertig, Arbeitsalltag und Ausbruch unter einen Hut zu bringen? Was treibt sie an? Wir begleiten die interessantesten (und mitunter auch skurilsten) Exponenten der hiesigen Surfszene auf ihrer Suche nach der perfekten Welle und ihrem Traum, allen Widrigkeiten zum trotz das zu tun, was sie am liebsten machen: surfen.

Surfing – not really the first thing you would associate with this small landlocked country in the middle of europe. And yet, there’s quite a bit going on in Switzerland. With no sea to surf, the Swiss surfers are forced to take every opportunity they get – be it on standing river waves, behind souped-up motor boads or simply with packed bags and a flight ticket. They seem to trace down every surfable wave in Switzerland, and they’re already regulars in the waves of the world.
There’s the shaper manufacturing surfboards in the heart of an industrial area in Zurich, there’s surfers finding a home in a land without a sea and kids leaving the same country forever behind. How do the juggle their everyday work life with the urge to just grab a bag of boards and head for the shore? What is it that drives them? We join some of the most interesting and intriguing characters of the Swiss surfing scene on their search for the perfect wave and in their dream of, against all odds, doing what they love the most: surfing..
